Glutathione Plus™ capsules from Douglas Laboratories® contain 50 mg of glutathione in its active reduced form and 440 mg of N-acetyl-L-cysteine, which provides an effective way to increase both extracellular and intracellular levels of glutathione.
Glutathione is a natural tripeptide of L-cysteine, L-glutamate and L-glycine. It is well absorbed in the intestine and passes into the blood and other extracellular compartments.
N-acetyl-L-cysteine is a precursor of intracellular glutathione.
N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) is a precursor of the sulfuric amino acid cysteine, which the body uses in the synthesis of glutathione. Unlike glutathione, NAC is transported efficiently to the interior of the cell, where it is easily converted to L-cysteine for the synthesis of glutathione. NAC is an extremely effective way to increase the storage levels of intracellular glutathione.
